FOREIGN INVESTORS SUPPLANT LOCAL GANJA FARMERS

May 7, 2019 By Roland Lundberg

Jamaica decriminalized marijuana in 2015 and ever since the Island has seen a “weed gold-rush” of sorts where foreign investors are seizing the opportunity to grow and sell in a volumes that poor Jamaican ganja farmers cannot. Local farmer Ras Iyah V says that if the current trend continues, before too long foreigners are gonna run the market. He says not all foreigners are evil but most of them are primarily interested in overseas profit which will be of little benefit for Jamaicans.

So far the Jamaican Government has granted a total of 30 licenses. By law, all foreigners must share 51% of their profit with a local entity.
