BOB MARLEY LAID TO HIS FINAL REST

On 21 May, 1981 BOB MARLEY was laid to rest in the village of Nine Mile. In his casket was his red Gibson Les Paul guitar, a football, a Bible opened at Psalm 23, and a stalk of ganja placed there by Rita Marley.

Kabaka Pyramid at Nectar Lounge

KABAKA PYRAMID delivered a stellar performance at the Nectar Lounge this week. The Bebble Rockers hit the stage with an extended introduction with a musical beat that I can still feel in my spirit, Kabaka walked on stage and opened up with a rendition of Can’t Breathe that let us know what we could expect from the rest of his show. He performed several hits from the album Kontraband and from his catalog of singles before he gave us a brief journey through the annals of Jamaican classics, ranging from Tenor Saw to Bob Marley.

It’s MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!! And, there are many musical events in Seattle where you can get your reggae vibes on. Let’s start with the NORTHWEST FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL. It’s going on all weekend at the Seattle Center. The great thing about the NWFF is the focus on local bands with Monday being the day for reggae lovers with performances by The Georgetown Orbits, Laborer and Universal Roots, Unite-One, and Clinton Fearon & Boogie Brown Band. And, best of all, it’s FREE!

In addition to those live performances at the NWFF we have quite a few DJ sets this weekend. This SATURDAY The Red Lounge is having a MEMORIAL WEEKEND DJ BATTLE!! Old Skool VS New Skool!! Can old school dancehall beat out new school dancehall? We’ll see. The Red Lounge follows up on SUNDAY with their ANNUAL YACHT PARTY. Then we  have Zions Gate Sound pulling out all the stops on Memorial Day with their MEMORIAL DAY #JAMJAM at the Monkey Loft! DJ Abel, DJ X Man & DJ Element will providing the Carnival style soundtrack all night and Betty Rox the Caribbean dance! Come out in costume and dance the night away.

We have some fierce live performances kicking of the month of June starting with PATO BANTON and the New Generation is coming to Nectar Lounge along with Lion of Judah Band on June 5th, 2019.

KRANIUM and Jada Kingdom performs at Nectar Lounge on Friday, June 7th.

KONSHENS is bringing his A-game to the Red Lounge on Saturday, June 8th. This will sell out. If you haven’t purchased your tickets, I suggest you do so. And, then get ready to turn up!

EP RELEASE PARTY!!!!! CLINTON FEARON & BOOGIE BROWN BAND is back at Nectar Lounge on June 8th with new music!!

MYKAL ROSE WITH SLY & ROBBIE Is coming to Seattle!!! June 23rd at Nectar Lounge!! This is a match made in heaven!! Mykal Rose is the original voice of Black Uhuru. This show will go down as memorable.

We have two nights of ZIGGY MARLEY and MICHAEL FRANTI and Spearhead at Chateau Ste. Michelle on Friday and Saturday June 21st and June 22nd.

REBELUTION, COLLIE BUDDZ, along with Durand Jones & The Indications are going to be at Marymoor Park in Redmond on June 29th.

TOOOOOOOOTS!!! YES! TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS are bringing their act to Benaroya Hall! #DoTheReggay August 1!!

MORGAN HERITAGE with Jereme Morgan, plus local opening band Two Story Zori, bring their “Loyalty Tour” to Nectar Lounge on Friday, September 6, 2019.
