This Week In Reggae: LEE “SCRATCH” PERRY is the oldest person to make the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. VYBZ KARTEL and SHAWN STORM Court of Appeals ruling lingers. MAVADO in Jamaica for son’s murder trial. JAHIANT JAHH killed while defending daughter from assault. MARCIA GRIFFITHS releases new album Timeless. We commemorate the release of BOB MARLEY’s final album Uprising. We also commemorate the passing of Hon. MARCUS GARVEY.

LEE PERRY – OLDEST PERSON TO ENTER BILLBOARD REGGAE CHART

At 83 years old, LEE “SCRATCH” PERRY is the oldest person to make the Billboard Reggae Albums chart since its inception in 1994. He earns a career-best number two place with Rainford, a nine-song set.

The legendary producer/artiste, known for his work with The Wailers, Junior Byles and Junior Murvin, has made the chart 13 times. Rainford was released by On-U Sound on May 10.

Perry, a Grammy winner, has developed a massive following in Europe and the United States with his manic personality.

KARTEL AND STORM APPEALS RULING LINGERS

VYBZ KARTEL along with fellow entertainer Shawn Storm, Andre St John, and Kahira Jones were found guilty in 2014 of the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams after a trial that lasted 65 days. Their cases are up for appeal.

MAVADO IN JAMAICA FOR SON’S MURDER TRIAL

It’s been a year since David Constantine Brooks aka MAVADO left Jamaica for the United States where he is a legal permanent resident to avoid questioning in regards to his son’s murder trial. Now he might be back in the island as he posted a new photo of himself on Instagram which appears to be taken at his mansion in St. Andrew.

MARCIA GRIFFITHS RELEASES NEW ALBUM

The Queen of Reggae, MARCIA GRIFFITHS is celebrating 55 years as an artist by releasing her album Timeless June 14 on all digital platforms.

JAHIANT JAHH KILLED

Markland Campbell aka JAHIANT JAHH was shot dead in Ottawa, Canada last Friday as he was attempting to defend his 18-year old daughter after she called saying she was being assaulted by two men.

UPRISING RELEASE ANNIVERSARY

On June 10, 1980 Bob Marley’s “Uprising” was released, his final studio album before his death the next year in 1981.

PASSING OF MARCUS GARVEY

On 10 June 1940 MARCUS MOSIAH GARVEY JR. ONH passed away from a stroke while living in London.

EVERY THURSDAY Reggae in Seattle is on Seattle Comcast channel 77 and Wave channel 23 at 7:30PM on Thursdays, with encore airings at 2:00 pm Saturdays and 2:00 Am Sundays. We feature reggae artists interviews and reggae music videos with a local spin.
