Vybz Kartel was rushed, under heavy police guard, to the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston on Sunday March 3, where he was admitted in serious but stable condition. At first, the nature of his illness was not disclosed.
A source inside his management said:
“The doctors are now running some tests to zoom in on the root cause of his illness, and I know he has been complaining about feeling some pain in his chest and side. He had some complications that am not privy to disclose. The doctors are doing their tests and we just have to leave it up to them and ask the fans for prayers.”
Another source said:
“Mr Palmer came in to UHWI because he had a problem which was acting up on him and he came in on Sunday to do some tests. His heart was racing, so the medical professionals gave him medication to get his heart beating normally. When he came in, his heart was beating at over 150 beats per minute, and he is now stable, under 100 beats.”
Later on Valerie Neita-Robertson, Vybz Kartel’s lawyer, confirmed that her client was feeling better and that he had an ongoing thyroid issue:
“He has a condition and he wasn’t feeling well”
He was released from medical care on Tuesday March 5th.
Vybz Kartel ,whose real name is Adidja Palmer, has previously been taken to the hospital twice during his eight-year stint into his life sentence for murder, once in 2013 for severe chest pain and and once in 2015 for a possible kidney infection.
