
On 7 October 1928, Lij Tafari Makonnen Woldemikael was crowned Negus (Amharic for King).
Two years later, he would be crowned Negusa Nagast (Amharic for King of Kings) at Addis Ababa’s Cathedral of St. George where he ceremoniously adopted his infant baptismal name Haile Selassie as part of his regal name.
