As of Wednesday, Clifton Bailey aka Capleton aka King Shango aka The Fireman is officially a free man as the charges have been dropped in the rape case stemming from May 02, 2018. The charge was officially dismissed when Capleton appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court with his attorney Christopher Townsend.
A woman alleged that King Shango raped her in Kingston last year April 28 while she was in his hotel room to groom his hair. When the accusation was made, it shocked the reggae and dancehall community, however Capleton maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal as he had text messages proving that she tried to extort money from him.
The Fireman’s attorney, Christopher Townsend, released a statement:
The judge ruled that there was no prima facie case and the matter was discharged. The prosecution had attempted to submit a new statement into evidence, but the judge did not allow that and ruled to dismiss the case.
Capleton’s longtime manager Claudette Kemp was ecstatic and said:
I don’t know how to contain my joy; Capleton has been freed, God is good. The police had attempted to submit a new statement and change the original statement given by the girl in the matter. So this decision is an affirmation of truth and rights. Capleton has always maintained his innocence and his name has been cleared in this matter.
